Parry, who secured a win at the Delhi Challenge on the HotelPlanner Tour last year, credits that victory for reviving his career and influencing his decision to return to India.

The upcoming Indian Open, co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the Indian Golf Union, will feature 138 players from nearly 30 countries, battling for a $2.25 million prize purse.

Parry in an exclusive interview with Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net) said
It's been a whirlwind start, and to be in this position is something I couldn't have imagined a year ago. The confidence from winning in Delhi was a massive boost. The Indian Open is a prestigious event with an incredible field this year, and I’m excited to compete.

In an exclusive interview, Parry discussed how studying biomechanics through YouTube videos significantly contributed to his form, and how maintaining a clear mental approach has been key to handling pressure. He also highlighted the challenges of the Indian Open course and his strategy for navigating it.

Parry added
I realised I was getting caught up in minor technical details. Watching videos on biomechanics gave me a fresh perspective. Simplifying my game and focusing on performance-based drills made all the difference.

Excerpts from an interview:

Q: The start to 2025 has been good for you, hasn’t it?

Really, really good, yeah. Getting a win really helped me pick my schedule and decide what I can play in. It’s been a great start.

Q: What caused the turnaround in your game?

It was around this time last year when I watched some biomechanics videos on YouTube. I picked out things that I thought could help me. Then I practised with a focus on performance-based skill tests, which really worked.

Q: Was there something new that you tried?

Yes. I stuck with the same practice approach for over a year, and it’s been effective. My practice sessions are now shorter but more focused and productive.

Q: How important was the Delhi Challenge victory in reviving your career?

It was massive. Winning confirmed that I was on the right path. It gave me clarity and confidence to keep doing what was working. When you win, it reinforces the belief that you’re making the right choices.

Q: What lessons are you bringing from the Delhi Challenge to the Indian Open?

It's a different tour and the course is tougher. But I'll stick to my aggressive playstyle from the tee and be smart with my approach shots. The Delhi Challenge taught me to trust my instincts and stay positive.

Q: What do you think of the course after playing the Pro-Am round?

It’s incredibly challenging. The greens are already playing like it’s Sunday in a regular event. Scores might not be very low because it’s so demanding.

Q: How do you mentally approach such a tough course?

It’s all about patience. You can't always aim directly at the hole. Positioning is crucial. You need to be smart and stay disciplined. Even if you miss a shot, keeping a positive mindset is essential.

Q: How do you switch on and off during tournaments?

Switching on is easy. I stick to my routines. To switch off, I’ve started working with a strength and conditioning coach. It’s a good way to unwind while staying active.

Q: What do you like to watch on TV to relax?

I enjoy watching big tournaments, especially cricket. The Ashes or other major events are my go-to. It’s a great way to switch my mind off from golf.

Q: What’s your key to handling pressure?

Having a clear thought process about what I want to do with the golf shot is key. Committing to the shot, even if it doesn't go well, is what keeps the pressure manageable. Trusting your preparation makes a difference.

Q: Was your win at the Delhi Challenge a factor in your return to the Indian Open?

Absolutely. I loved it here. Plus, the food is fantastic. That’s definitely something I enjoy. Winning in Delhi created a special connection for me with India.

Q: How do you view the competition this week?

The field is strong, one of the best I’ve seen here in years. The course feels luxurious and well-maintained, which makes it feel like a major event. I’m looking forward to it.
