If there is one Indian batsman who has been making waves in domestic cricket in all three formats this season, it is undoubtedly Karun Nair.

Ever since this 33-year-old Karnataka player switched over to Vidarbha, in the 2023-24 season, he has been in magical form scoring runs by tons. In the process, Nair has unleashed his 2.0 version.
All class and composure, Nair, the only Indian to have scored a triple hundred in Tests after Virender Sehwag, smashed 9 hundreds across formats -- which includes record five centuries in a row in the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament. He played a major role in Vidarbha finishing runners-up last season and lifting the Ranji Trophy title this season.
Given his hunger to score big runs and a desire to don the India colours once again, Nair is well on course to end his 9-year exile from Team India. A good outing for his new IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals, might work wonders for Nair in reaching his goal.
Honestly, I don’t want to get ahead of myself. Of course, the main goal (of getting back to the Indian dressing room) is something that will always be at the back of my mind but I am determined to stay in the present. I want to prepare well and follow the process which has given me great results in recent times.
Having had to deal with the ups and downs in Life and Sport, Nair is a better player and person for the experience. It helps him stay humble and focus on the things he should be doing.
These are life lessons; it’s not about taking a hit but how quickly you can get back on your feet. Everyone has to go through his share of ups and downs, it has been a good learning curve for me. It has made me tough and added to my hunger and motivation.
Returning to the IPL fold after a dream domestic season, will he be feeling the pressure of the big stage, big event?
It’s more of a challenge. I don’t want to feel the weight of expectations. I want to back myself, prepare the way I usually do, and play the way I want to. At the same time, it is important to play as per the demands of the situation and keep my strike rate up. I just want to stay in the present and keep things simple.
Playing for Delhi Capitals will also help Nair reunite with his friend KL Rahul. “I’ve known him since childhood, we started together at the same time. We share a great bond. So, looking forward to meeting him and understanding how he prepares heading into a game.”
In Axar Patel, Delhi Capitals have a new captain and Nair hopes he will help the side jell well and get the desired results.
I think he’s an amazing cricketer who has done well in recent years. He’s a versatile cricketer who brings different skill sets into the game. As Captain, he would bring fresh ideas and strategies to the team. I think he will give a lot of freedom to each and every player to go out and express themselves.
