Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure says he’s a very happy person, having achieved his childhood dream of being there for the people who truly matter-his family and friends.

The Malian midfielder, who was born in France, has had to overcome adversity and significant setbacks. Yet, he has established himself as a force in the Premier League, impressing at Watford before earning a move to Everton.

Speaking to Telecom Asia, the 32-year-old opened up about his pride and ambitions for the remainder of the season.

Abdoulaye Doucoure, exclusively for Telecom Asia Sport
For me, it had to be football. I remember telling my mum that once I made it, she wouldn’t have to work or do anything else. That became my driving force, something to hold on to.

Even at 32, Doucoure shows no signs of slowing down. In Everton’s recent Premier League clash against Chelsea, he was one of the players who covered the most distance on the pitch.

Everton are now safe from relegation, and although European qualification is out of reach, Doucoure’s competitive nature means the goal is to finish the season as strongly as possible.

Abdoulaye Doucoure
We want to finish as high as we can. We didn’t start the season well, but with this manager we’ve found ourselves. Now, we have to end on a high.

This will be Everton’s final season at Goodison Park, their home since 1892. The historic ground will soon be replaced, as the club looks to increase revenue from gate receipts and keep pace with the ever-demanding nature of the Premier League.

Doucoure, who wears his heart on his sleeve, anticipates it won’t be easy for fans.

Abdoulaye Doucoure
This will be tough for everyone, including us and the fans, but I understand why we have to move. What we can do is make sure we finish the season on a high and give the fans the best possible send-off.

Everton now face winnable games against Ipswich, Fulham, and Southampton, before a tricky trip to Newcastle and a final home game against Bournemouth-an emotional farewell at Goodison Park.
