Emmanuel Adebayor was born on the 26th day of February, in the year 1984, in Lomé, Togo. He went on to be one of the finest and most accomplished footballers to emanate from the Motherland, joining other continent's soccer luminaries, such as George Weah, Jay Jay Okocha, Samuel Eto, Didier Drogba, Kanu Nwankwo, Yaya Toure, etc.
International Career
Emmanuel Adebayor opted to play for the Togolese national side, even though he was qualified to play for the Nigerian Super Eagles. In the 2006 African Cup of Nations, Ade was very instrumental in Togo's qualifying for the main event, which saw him bang in 11 goals for his country. He was awarded the best player in Africa in 2008, making him the first Togolese to get the title.
Emmanuel Adebayor continued his heroics for his national side when he helped them secure a spot for the 2006 Germany FIFA World Cup, in which he was the captain of the side, even though it wasn't a successful outing. Adebayor featured for the Togolese senior male football side 85 times, where he found goalkeepers wanting 32 times in his international career. To date, he remains the greatest footballer of all time in Togo.
Club Career
The tall and ferocious, goal-thirsty striker was first touted by Metz back in 2001 and went on to make 51 appearances, finding the back of the net 17 times for the French club outfit. In 2003, Monaco FC sought the services of Emmanuel Adebayor, one which he carried out for three seasons, before switching over to English club giants Arsenal.
While at Arsenal, he made 142 appearances and scored 62 goals. His bromance with the Gunners went south, which was tantamount to him switching to another English club, giants Manchester City, appearing 45 times, with 19 goals to his name. In 2009, he was on a one-year loan spell with Laliga's elite side Real Madrid, and upon returning, he joined Tottenham on loan in 2011, a deal which will see him quit the Citizens for a permanent move to Spurs in 2012, where he made 113 appearances, and scored 42 goals.
Emmanuel Adebayor also plied his trade for the likes of Crystal Palace, Istanbul Basaksehir, Kayserispor, and Olimpia Asunción. He currently plays for Semassi, a Togolese Championnat club outfit.
