On the night of December 1, Valve released a Dota 2 winter update. The players will have new quests, guild rewards, and a treasure that can be purchased with shards. Of course, the winter treasure sets are not as good as Collector's Cache 2022 released two weeks ago, but they are also quite decent this time. At least, some sets look very cool, which is an achievement for Valve. Read what was released in Dota Plus winter update and how good the new treasure is in our material.
The main updates
The game update introduced a set of Dota 2 quests and rewards for Silver-, Gold-, and Platinum-tier guilds. You can earn up to 115 thousand shards for performing quests. The rewards will open access to the chat wheel's new emoticons, sprays, and phrases. Besides, the sets from the spring and summer 2021 treasures can now be purchased with 15 thousand shards.
The winter breeze may have stripped the trees of their leaves but a select group of heroes are bundled up more snugly than ever as the time comes for the seasonal Dota Plus update to appear, filled with a new seasonal treasure, plus refreshed Seasonal Quests and Rewards for you to explore during the grey days and gloomy nights ahead.
The treasure contents
The winter treasure features sets for Lifestealer, Storm Spirit, Vengeful Spirit, Spirit Breaker, Oracle, Night Stalker, Elder Titan, and Sven. Each opened chest increases the chance to get a very rare courier Frosty the Seadragon, which has two gems: ethereal and prismatic. Let's take a closer look at each of the sets.
Lifestealer
The winter set for Lifestealer looks very cool. We are used to this character in red shades. The new set allows you to look at Lifestealer from a different angle. It is made in cold blue tones, as it should be. Lifestealer's body and limbs are covered with stony growths, from which energy bursts. There are sharp crystals on the hero's back for protection. He also has tusks covered with ice. We cannot say it's the best set for Lifestealer, but it looks decent and reminds us of the New Year. 8/10.
Storm Spirit
Unfortunately, we cannot praise the winter set for Storm Spirit, as it has hardly changed the character. It would be much more logical to release a New Year outfit for Ember Spirit or Earth Spirit and add blue shades to them, but the developers decided to work on Storm Spirit. It didn't work out. You will only understand how this set differs from the original model with their detailed comparison. We wouldn't like to avoid getting this set from the winter treasure. 1/10.
Vengeful Spirit
The changes in Vengeful Spirit are visible, but the developers should have made the hero stand out. He looks more or less the same. Vengeful Spirit has got a new helmet, and her armor is now adorned with fur. The character's weapon has also undergone some changes. That's all. Nothing else has changed. So, we can hardly call this set good or nice.
Spirit Breaker
The set for Spirit Breaker has adorned and changed the character much better than the previous two. The hero now wears warmer fur clothes, and a huge red crystal on his head looks like an eye. Spirit Breaker holds a morning star with a head of a troll or another magical beast on its end. The set has changed the character's appearance and made it more suitable for winter, but in general, it doesn't look good. The new treasure has much more worthy sets. 5/10.
Oracle
The winter set for Oracle is the best one. Its appearance has changed dramatically thanks to numerous significant, if small, details rather than hero model redevelopment. Oracle's attire now has a lot of fur and golden elements, a new helmet crowns his head, and there is a stone figure with candles behind him. He holds a frozen pumpkin head. It is natural and eye-catching. Valve has managed to make an excellent New Year set for Oracle. 9/10.
Night Stalker
The developers also worked a lot on the set for Night Stalker. The hero's appearance hasn't changed conceptually, but now it creates a different effect, again due to its details. Night Stalker has a hood with long crooked horns sticking out of it, a huge chain on his neck, a belt with a laughing monster on its stomach, and new armor on his arms and legs. Besides, his wings have become more like birds' wings than those of bats, which also looks good. The set for Night Stalker is acceptably good. 7/10.
Elder Titan
The set for Elder Titan is also successful. The hero's horns are huge, and their tips are covered with ice. Elder Titan's "stapler" is also partly covered with icy growths, and there are giant swords behind the hero. Now he also has a white beard like Santa Claus. A good set which can be called a winter one, though it would be stretching a point. 7/10.
Sven
Sven looks like a Nordic warrior from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or a Dragon Knight with this new set. The helmet covers his face completely, with small horns sticking out of it like that of a dragon, and their tips are covered with ice. Sven's armor has also become more brutal: he now uses a dragon skull with two tusks instead of a pauldron. You should also pay attention to Sven's sword, which has become heavier and more impressive. The result is a good winter set for Sven. 7/10.
Frosty the Seadragon
A courier named Frosty the Seadragon looks quite strange. He is similar to a seahorse with horns, icy growths, and a backpack that he carries in his mouth. We cannot say it's a bad skin, but Valve developers and designers could have created something more appealing for the winter collection. 5/10.
