Chelsea has activated the option to recall defender Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace by ending the defender's loan spell at the club.
Bet Premier League on Bet365The 25-year-old defender joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan and has made 14 appearances for the club this season. However, due to recent injuries in Chelsea's defense, particularly with Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana suffering hamstring injuries, the Blues have decided to recall Chalobah. Unfortunately, Chalobah will not be available for Crystal Palace's Premier League match against Leicester City on Wednesday evening.
According to David Ornstein from The Athletic, Chelsea has officially recalled defender Trevoh Chalobah. Prior to his loan move, Chalobah had some experience with the club, as he was excluded from Chelsea’s pre-season tour last summer and was part of the group of players that trained separately
Chelsea's defense has looked vulnerable recently as they extended their winless run to five in the Premier League on Tuesday against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge and will be hoping that Chalobah's return can provide some much-needed defensive stability.
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner admitted there had been uncertainty over Chalobah's future in the build-up to their match with Leicester on Wednesday night.
'It’s a tricky situation.' I want to always be honest. Chelsea has the possibility to call him back from loan. 'There’s a little bit of uncertainty at the moment: will they do it, when they’ll do it. I have to take the best decision for our team. We need clarity, he needs clarity.
Chalobah's contract with Chelsea expires in the summer of 2028, after the defender signed a six-year deal in 2022, with the Blues having the option to extend for a further year.
