Snyman took over back in March 2024 when the Blitzboks were really struggling with results and under his coaching they have turned around their fortunes when they went on to win the World Rugby Sevens Repechage tournament in Monaco and that gained them entry into the Olympics games in Paris. They then earned 3 rd spot as a result and achieved a bronze medal for team South Africa.

The Blitzboks squad are now a very a different outfit, they are really hungry to achieve more success, they are a very determined and want to become a massive force again on the seven series circuit with the upcoming season ahead. Speaking to the media at the recent FastForward7s tournament in Stellenbosch. Coach Phillip, touched on 3 vital aspects which he feels is paramount for their success. This is preparation, goals and results.

The preparation has been excellent so far and it was broken up into three blocks, the first block has been conditioning , the second block is strength and conditioning with skills and the final block was playing games in this FasterForward7s tournament today which fits perfectly in our schedule which is necessary - for the contact play, for the one on one tackles and for us it’s not about results or the scores it’s about the high standards we have put out and now we are in the process of preparing for a long tough season and in particular we wanted this games under the belt so we ready for the Dubai and Cape Town legs.

Our goals are to win the series but we have to break it down and say we want to end in the top 3 standings because we know it will be tough but we must be consistent and we must raise the bar every time we go on the training field and when we play in every match.

Furthermore, the coach then went onto touch on results and how they desperately want to win the Cape Town Sevens leg as they have not won the leg for 9 years with the last time being back in 2015 in the very first Cape Town Series leg.

Results will always be a talking point and in Cape Town we have not won it in a while but we have set standards for ourselves and know how we want to play and we want live our culture through those standards, we also want to bring in new players on the scene and that’s also one of the goals we hope to achieve with a jam packed schedule. Our main goal is to win the series and hopefully our results will reflect that on the field ultimately.

The excitement and vibe in the group is quite high and they are raring to to go and if one looks at the resources and quality players in the squad. There should be no reason why the blitzbokke should not fail but rather succeed. They will definitely look to fire on all cylinders this season as there is big expectation from the South African rugby public that they need to deliver this season. The upcoming HSBS SVNS will kick off in Dubai from the 30 th November to the 1 st 2024 and This will then be followed up by Cape Town which is the 7 th and 8 th December 2024.
