Talking Points from the 2024 United States Presidential Debates
Trump and Harris went back and forth and exchanged bants in the debate organized by ABC News as part of the electioneering process. After a slow start to the debate, Harris was able to pick up herself and throw lots of bants at Trump. It appeared that it was time for the Democratic Party to get revenge for the first jab thrown against them in the Biden vs Trump debate held months ago, as analysts saw the recent ABC News debate between Harris and Trump as a good comeback for the Democratic Party.
Some commentators on Fox News believed that Kamala Harris won her debate against Donald Trump. Fox political analyst Brit Hume claimed that Harris was “well-prepared, had answers, and knew where she was going.” He added that she baited Trump successfully and came out ahead. Hume said that Trump had a “bad night”.
Some issues tackled in the debate:
- Economic decisions.
- Harris believes Trump tried to overturn the issues in the last election.
- The current administration and Harris’s stance on the Israel and Palestine war, claiming they are working tirelessly to restore peace.
- Trump's stance on national security and immigration.
- Trump insisted he didn’t lose the 2020 election.
- The federal abortion ban, etc.
Some Quotes from the Debate
They’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats, they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.
I have travelled the world as vice-president of the United States, and world leaders are laughing at Donald Trump. I have talked with military leaders, some of whom were with you, and they say you’re a disgrace. ...Clearly, he’s having a very difficult time processing that.
One does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree that the government and Donald Trump certainly should not be telling a woman what to do with her body.
First, let me respond as to the rallies. People don’t leave my rallies, we have the biggest rallies, the most incredible rallies in the history of politics.
Taylor Swift Endorse Harris on Instagram
In an Instagram post, Taylor Swift threw her support for Kamala Harris and claimed that what was said during the debate influenced her decision.
Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country. Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades. I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.
Harris’s Campaign Call for a Second Debate Against Trump
The head of Harris’s campaign, Jen O’Malley Dillon, said in a statement that Harris is ready for another debate after the debate.
Under the bright lights, the American people got to see the choice they will face this fall at the ballot box: between moving forward with Kamala Harris, or going backwards with Trump. That’s what they saw tonight and what they should see at a second debate in October. Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?
However, after the debate, Trump quickly responded by telling newsmen that Harris wanted a rematch because she “lost” the first debate.
