However, for the first time since 2003, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have both failed to make the shortlist for this year's Ballon d'Or.

Vinícius Jr

Vinicius Junior had an impressive performance as he helped Real Madrid win the La Liga, the Champions League, and the Supercopa de España trophy during the 2023-24 campaign. The Brazilian made the La Liga Team of the Season, and he was La Liga Player of the Month in March 2024. During the 2023-24 season, Vincius Jr. scored a total of 24 goals in his 39 appearances, including La Liga, Uefa Champions League, Supercopa, and Copa del Rey matches for Madrid.

Rodri

Rodri is participating in his first Ballon d'Or after the defensive midfielder helped Manchester City win their fourth consecutive Premier League title in 2023/24. Rodri also played a crucial part in Spain winning the Euro 2024 title, but the Spaniard was forced out at halftime as he suffered an unfortunate injury in the Euro 2024 final against England. Winning trophies for both clubs and country might play a crucial part in his fate for his first Ballon d'Or award.
