New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell lauded Hasan Nawaz’s “unbelievable” batting display after the young opener smashed Pakistan’s fastest-ever T20I century, guiding his team to a commanding nine-wicket victory in the third T20I at Eden Park on Friday.

The 22-year-old, who endured back-to-back ducks on debut, announced himself in spectacular fashion with a 44-ball hundred, surpassing Babar Azam’s previous record. Nawaz’s blistering knock helped Pakistan chase down 205 with 24 balls to spare, keeping the five-match series alive after two heavy defeats.
Bracewell, who contributed a quickfire 31 in New Zealand’s innings, acknowledged Nawaz’s brilliance but lamented his own side’s failure to bat out their 20 overs.
Disappointed with the result. Tip your hat off to Nawaz, he was unbelievable. Pretty hard to defend here tonight, credit to him but pretty disappointed. We did not bat the full 20 overs, which is criminal in T20s. You got to tidy up, conditions change and you had to deal with it.
New Zealand posted 204, largely thanks to Michael Chapman’s blistering 94, before being bowled out on the penultimate delivery. However, Nawaz’s stunning assault ensured Pakistan cruised to victory with ease.
Reflecting on his innings, Nawaz credited captain Salman Ali Agha and teammate Shadab Khan for their unwavering support.
The way I got out in the first two matches, I was very disheartened, but captain and Shadab supported me, told me I am a match-winning player and that helped me. I just had in my mind that I need to score a single first in international cricket and then after that I felt relaxed and the pressure was released. I had so much backing and I am so grateful to my captain.
