Wickets win matches — and Mumbai Indians proved that again in emphatic fashion on Wednesday night. Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar struck early to dismantle Sunrisers Hyderabad's top order, setting up a commanding seven-wicket win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

With just 143 runs to chase, Mumbai made light work of the target thanks to a blistering 70 from Rohit Sharma and a rapid 40* from Suryakumar Yadav. The victory — their fourth on the bounce — lifted the five-time champions to third in the IPL 2025 standings with 10 points from nine games.

Glad the boys are taking the momentum in the right way. I've felt, that once everyone starts clicking in this team there will be domination. Deepak, Boult set it up; Rohit, SKY finished it. Overall, a wonderful win.

Captain Hardik Pandya was full of praise for his squad:

Sunrisers, meanwhile, were rocked early by a devastating opening burst. Boult removed Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma for single-digit scores, and Chahar accounted for Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ishan Kishan, reducing Hyderabad to a shocking 13/4 and then 35/5.

Only a remarkable 99-run partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar gave the hosts something to bowl at. Klaasen smashed 71 off 44 balls in a spirited effort, while Manohar added 43 before being dismissed hit wicket — a rare occurrence in T20 cricket.

After a couple of wickets, you have to find a way to steady the ship. Couldn't do that... You have to start 0 for 0 every game. That’s T20 — you don’t always know what’s coming.

Pat Cummins, captain of SRH, reflected on the defeat:

Mumbai’s chase began with the early loss of Ryan Rickelton, but Rohit’s fluent 46-ball knock — laced with eight fours and three sixes — ensured there were no nerves. Yadav’s cameo sealed the deal in just 15.4 overs.

Sunrisers, languishing at the bottom with just four points from eight matches, will need a turnaround in their upcoming away fixtures to stay alive in the competition.

Brief Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 143/8 in 20 overs (Heinrich Klaasen 71, Abhinav Manohar 43; Trent Boult 4-26, Deepak Chahar 2-12) Mumbai Indians 146/3 in 15.4 overs (Rohit Sharma 70, Suryakumar Yadav 40*; Jaydev Unadkat 1-25, Zeeshan Ansari 1-36) Result: Mumbai Indians won by seven wickets.
