FIVB Nations League. Women. Quarterfinal
Brazil vs Japan
Ankara Arena (Ankara)
13.07.2022. 15.00 (UTC+3)
The last time Brazil lost to Japan was at the 2017 Grand Prix, that is, before the Nations League. They lost in five sets, but won 22-9 in blocks. And, curious enough, no one was surprised: that's how it's always been and probably always will be.

The Brazilians made it through the group stage with 10 wins and only two defeats.
One of the strongest elements of the South American team is the block. In the group stage. Guimarães's players blocked their opponents more than three times per game on average. The record number of blocks was set in the match with Serbia – 139 in three sets. The anti-record was five in four in the game against Italy, but that, as you understand, is an exception to the rule. It was the only one. However, in that game total blocks still hit 19.5
Japan
The Japanese women won eight games in the preliminary round, losing four, giving all of them up in Week 3, winning eight straight games before that.
In the same 12 group games, the Japanese put up only 55 blocks – 84 fewer than the Brazilians! Clearly, the block has never been a dangerous weapon in their hands. The Japanese national team averaged a little more than one block per game, but they were able to block two and a half times.
If we add up the average results of the Brazilian and Japanese teams, we get about 17 blocks in three games. However, the Japanese have not lost a single time in the group stage, and it is difficult to believe that Brazil will lose in three sets.
Thus, it makes sense to bet on the Blocks Total Over.
Head-to-head encounters
In the current Nations League, Brazilian and Japanese women have not yet met. The last time they crossed paths was in Tokyo at the Olympics. That time Brazil won in three sets and 16-2 in blocks.
A similar pattern was seen in last year's Nations League, 16 blocks in the group stage in three sets and 18 in the semifinals in four sets.
