Lorenzo Sonego vs Rafael Nadal Prediction: the Italian to Take One Set Against the Spaniard

Rafa Nadal's next opponent at Wimbledon will be the Italian Lorenzo Sonego, No. 54. Rafa is a big favorite for the upcoming game. Note that he did not impress in the first stages of the tournament but still won. We believe that Sonego has a chance to take at least a set in the battle with the world's No. 4.

Wimbledon was the fourth grass tournament for Sonego this season. Stuttgart, London, Eastbourne - no big wins, but he has practice instead and two victories at Wimbledon. The Italian got off to a difficult start - a five-set match against Kudla, followed by a three-set win over Gaston. The game against Hugo lasted two and a half hours, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. The stats are 6/0 of aces/doubles and 37/28 of winners/unforced errors. The second match showed that Sonego got used to the court. Moreover, the constant practice of playing on grass should help him in the upcoming meeting.

Nadal is one of the biggest favorites of the current draw, but so far, he is inferior to his rival, Novak Djokovic. Rafa knocked out Cherundolo and Berankis, not the top grass players, but he gave a set to both. If Rafa could not end 3-0 those matches, he won't do it against Sonego either. Recall that the match between Nadal and Berankis lasted three hours and seven minutes. Nadal won 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Stats are 13/4 of aces/doubles and 35/39 of winners/unforced errors.

After Nadal lost the set to Cerundolo and Berankis, not the strongest on grass, we believe that Sonego has an excellent chance to take at least one game against one of the tournament's favorites. We also expect a hard match and the total over.
