109th in the world Viktoria Kuzmova has advanced to the main draw of the US Open for the sixth time.

In her previous four outings, the 24-year-old Slovak player has all lost in the first round.

Kuzmova, a former World No. 27, advanced to the main draw after defeating Austria's Julia Grabher, Germany's Nastasja Maria Schunk, and Bulgaria's Viktoriya Tomova in the first, second, and third qualifying rounds, respectively. Kuzmova dominated all three matches, winning in straight sets in each.

Kuzmova has a season record of 26-16, including qualifying and lower level events. She has reached the ITF final and a semifinal this year, but has yet to achieve anything significant on the circuit.

Sara Sorribes Tormo reached the third round of the U.S. Open last year, her highest Grand Slam result.

The Spaniard, who is 23-16 overall this season, will be making her sixth appearance at the US Open. She was eliminated in the first round of each of her first three tournaments before progressing to the second round in 2020 and the Round of 32 last year.

Sorribes Tormo's greatest achievement this year came in Palermo last month, when she was a semifinalist. During the North American swing, the 25-year-old has lately competed in three events. She advanced to the second round in both Toronto and Cleveland, but was eliminated in the first round in Cincinnati.

Sorribes Tormo, who has lost five quarterfinals this season, will be looking to get off to a good start in the US Open. She is a better player than her opponent from the first round, and she has also been more consistent and generated greater outcomes. She is projected to start with a victory, which will place her in Round 2 against either Shelby Rogers or Arantxa Rus.

Sorribes Tormo is the early favourite in this competition. The Spaniard is likely to advance to the next round.
