Ons Jabeur vs Shelby Rogers Prediction: Can Ons add another win to her cap?

Ons comes into this game after defeating Elizabeth Mandlik 7-5, 6-2. In that game, she had 5 Aces and a rather shabby 54% first serve while nabbing a 66% on first serve. She managed a 32-24 receiving points advantage while also earning a 35-27 service points edge. In the first round, Ons defeated Madison Brengle in a similar-looking scoreline as the game against Mandlik, and in that game, she has a 43-26 receiving points advantage.

Jabeur remains bereft of a Grand Slam title, and the closest she came was just a couple of months ago, when she lost the Finals of Wimbledon against Elena Rybakina. While her versatile skillset suits the grass surface, on the hard surface, she can miss the power game. However, this is not to say that she is not an all-court player. Can she uncover a special game here?

Shelby comes into this game after an impressive 7-5, 6-1 win against Viktoria Kuzmova. In that game, Rogers had a highly impressive 79% win on first serve. She propelled her effort by garnering a 37-15 receiving points edge. In Game 1 for her in the tournament, where she defeated Arantxa Rus 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. In that game, she had a 73% first serve, hitting 72% win on the first serve.

At age 29, she has hit her peak and has been ranked at number 30 and has been seeded at 31 for the US Open, given a fair shot at a deep run. In 2020, Shelby did manage to reach the Quarter-Final, and she has never gotten past the Quarter-Final of a Grand Slam. This is an impressive return from the USA player who can turn it on even against top opponents. She boasts of a rather 42% win record against players who have been ranked top ten during the time of the meeting.

Jabeur and Rogers have met twice, with Ons winning both the battles. They both last met in the Quarter-Final of Cincinnati Masters in 2019 when Ons won a three-set tiebreaker thriller.

Out of the five sets between the two players, three have required the player to win seven games including a tiebreaker. Therefore, the competition has been heated between the two experienced players. While Ons’ record is better on grass, remember she wouldn’t have attained her fifth ranking if she wouldn’t be grabbing big wins on a hard surface. I’d back her to come on top in an exciting battle.
