One of the US Open quarterfinals will be a match between No. 14 Matteo Berrettini and No. 7 Norwegian Casper Ruud. Quite an expected matchup at this stage of the draw. As for the favorite, the bookmakers favor the Scandinavian, but very little.

Matteo Berrettini
Before the US Open, the Italian played only two hard-court matches, in Montreal and Cincinnati, and lost both to Carreño-Busta and Tiafoe. By the way, Berrettini and Ruud met in the tournament's final in Gstaad, and Casper won in three sets. At the beginning of the US Open, Berrettini was not in the best shape as it seemed then. But it did not stop him from reaching the quarterfinals, knocking out Harry, Grenier, Murray, and Davidovich Fokina. The match against the latter was the most difficult for the Italian. The game lasted almost four hours, five sets and one tie-break. Matteo was 0-1 in each set, so the victory could be called a win of will. Regarding statistics, Matteo made 18 aces on three double faults, winning 84% of points on first serve and 55% on second. On the receiving end: 31%/45%, 49/47 of winners/unforced errors.
We kind of have like similar game. We like to play, like to run around our forehands. You know, like putting a lot of spin on the ball, being aggressive. I think the key is like to be aggressive before him (smiling). I'm going to try to make him run and not gonna run too much. Yeah, the key I think is to be aggressive, to use my weapons, my serve, obviously my forehand. We played like a month ago. Obviously it was on clay, entirely different. We always have tough matches. We know each other. I'm sure it's going to be a great match.

Casper Ruud
The Scandinavian played well in Montreal, where he reached the semifinals. But he failed at the Masters in Cincinnati, already losing to Shelton in the first match. In New York, Casper had already given four sets, one to van Rijthoven and Moutet, two games to Paul, and only Edmund didn't give Ruud a worthy challenge. In the last 16, Ruud played against Moutet. The match was a four-set one but hardly difficult for him. By and large, Moutet gave battle to Ruud only in the third set, which he won. In the other three games, the Frenchmen took only five games. Casper's stats: 5/4 of aces/doubles, 72%/59% points won on the first serve, 42%/42% on reception, 43/39 of winners/unforced errors. Ruud's specialty is the clay, but Casper is making progress on the hard court as well.
I know when my father played, 20 or 25 years ago, the hard court was playing much faster. So I think they’ve done the clay workplace a little bit [of a] favour by making them slower. I’m feeling good on hard court even though clay is my personal favourite. it was a match with some show here and there. It was pretty humid today, so honestly it was a bit of a challenge sometimes to keep cool. But in these conditions, I know that I need to focus a lot on myself and keeping my head cool. I'm sweating a lot, so it takes a lot of energy for me to just always keep my hands and everything dry. So I didn't think too much about what happened, you know, around. Just tried to stay in the zone.

Expert Betting Tips
We doubt that the winner of the US Open is one of our guys. The Italian and the Norwegian barely made it to the quarterfinals, already have five sets and their face-off between is likely to be protracted. Ruud won his last title against Matteo just a month and a half ago, but Berrettini beat Casper decisively at the US Open two years ago. It's kind of parity, so we're waiting for the over. As for the outcome, we're on Ruud's side, the Norwegian looks more solid right now.
