Diego Schwartzman
The 14th-seeded Schwartzman has also had a successful season, reaching the finals of the Argentina Open and the Rio Open. His finest Grand Slam performance this year has been reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open.
In the first round, Schwartzman lost the opening two sets to Jack Sock. He rallied back to bagel the American in the third set before Sock quit in the fourth due to a back issue.
He advanced to the third round in New York after defeating Alexei Popyrin 7-6(3), 7-5, 7-6(6).
Frances Tiafoe
The 22nd-seeded Tiafoe has been on a roll this season, reaching the final of the Estoril Open in May, the semifinals of the Atlanta Open in July, and the quarter-finals of the Citi Open.
Tiafoe has had a strong start to the US Open, winning each of his first two matches in straight sets. The American, on the other hand, did not have it all his own way against Jason Kubler on Thursday, winning 7-6(3), 7-5, 7-6(2).
Head to Head
The two have faced three times before, with Schwartzman holding a 2-1 advantage. Their most recent meeting was in the semifinals of the 2021 Austrian Open, which Tiafoe won 6-4, 7-6. (6).
Expert Betting Tips
Tiafoe possesses a powerful forehand and a solid serve. He appears to be in a good frame of mind right now and will benefit from the backing of his home audience. When he's in character, the American is exceedingly difficult to stop.
Schwartzman is one of the tour's fittest players. Despite his age of 30, the Argentine can run all day and battle for every point. He will, however, need to work on his serve. In his most recent encounter, he served nine double faults and had a first-serve percentage of only 65%.
Tiafoe appears to have found his groove in New York and should be able to go past Schwartzman, though the Argentine will not make it easy.
