Stefano Tsitsipas
After ending qualifier Corentin Moutet's brave run in the tournament on Thursday, fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas marched into the seventh Masters 1000 quarterfinal of the year.
Tsitsipas looked at ease in the first set, not allowing Moutet a break opportunity and converting one of three he produced in the ninth game.
The Greek struggled in the second set, with the home favourite forcing him to the limit.
Moutet rallied from 0-40 to win the third game, and the two stayed on serve to take the set to a tiebreak. Tsitsipas pushed on the pedal and surged away with four straight points to win the match 6-3, 7-6 in the tiebreak after both players swapped two minibreaks apiece to stay knotted at 3-3. (7-3).
The world number five had also won his second round match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 over Daniel Evans.
Tommy Paul
Tommy Paul advanced in the event with a straight sets triumph against 14th seed Pablo Carreno Busta on Thursday, after his biggest win of his career over world no. 2 Rafael Nadal on Wednesday.
Paul has advanced to his second Masters 1000 quarterfinal after defeating the Spaniard 6-4, 6-4. His first came not long ago, either, with Paul falling in the final eight in Cincinnati.
This is the world number 31's tenth quarterfinal appearance this year, but he has only reached the final four once, at Delray Beach. Paul has played well in his first three bouts, defeating three Spaniards in a succession.
First up was Roberto Bautista Agut, who fell to the American 6-4, 6-4. Following that, Paul caused a massive shock by rallying past second seed Nadal 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in a two-and-a-half-hour match. He also looked well against Carreno Busta, as he was broken only once.
Paul will be full of confidence after beating three top 20 payers in the past three rounds. Can he eliminate a second top-ten player in three days?
Expert Betting Tips
Tsitsipas may not have a fantastic record in finals, but he has made it a habit to compete for the title on a regular basis. He is currently playing well and is anticipated to stop Paul's strong run in the tournament on Friday.
