One of the main events of the US Open first round we consider the duel between No. 37 Argentine Sebastian Baez and No. 4, as well as one of the leading contenders of the tournament, Carlos Alcaraz. Bookmakers believe the Argentine has almost no chance of winning the upcoming game. Let's see if this is true.

Sebastian Baez
After a successful tournament in Bastad, where Baez reached the finals, he had a severe slump. We mean the first-round losses in Hamburg, Umag, Washington, Montreal, and Cincinnati. The South American could not win a single set against Korda, Kyrgios, and Fritz on hard courts. With those stats, it's really scary to bet on the 37th-ranked player in the world.
Carlos Alcaraz
For Alcaraz, the US Open is his third hard-court tournament after the dirt part of the season. In Montreal, the Spaniard fell apart, dropping his first game against Paul. Carlos played much better in Cincinnati, overpowering McDonald and Cilic, but lost in three sets to Cameron Norrie. Recall that the Pyrenean has won four tournaments this year: three clay tournaments and a hard Masters in Miami. Carlos has 14 wins on hard court this year and four losses.

That's not to say that Alcaraz is at his peak right now. Obviously, that peak came in the spring of 2022, when he won two Masters. However, Baez is in such a slump that Alcaraz has no choice but to beat the Argentine confidently, especially since Carlos has experience beating Sebastian.
