Martina Trevisan vs Leylah Annie Fernandez Prediction: Can Annie pull off this Italian Job?

Canadian world No.18 Leylahh Annie Fernandez is the favourite in this quarterfinal match giant Italian left-hander and world No.59, Martina Trevisan. This will be the first career meeting between the two players.

The 28-year-old Italian is on rich vein of form. She arrived the French Open after winning the WTA event in Rabat. At Roland Garros, the Italian who reached the semi-final of the French Open girls’ tournament in 20029 has not lost a set. Against Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the 4th round, she was pushed to the end but she prevailed 7-6, 7-5 with the first set tie-breaker ending 12-10. In that match Martina’s first serve percentage was 69% but she made the difference with winning the points on 65% of her first serve.

The 19-year-old Canadian who finished as the losing finalist at the 2021 US Open will be making her first clay-court quarter-final. The sportsbooks have installed Fernandez as the overwhelming favourite but that is not how it’s going to pan out. Martinez is on a winning streak that is difficult to dismiss. She brushed aside all opposition at Rabat and has carried the momentum into the French Open where she has not dropped a set. While it could be argued that she has not played a serious contender her win over higher ranked Anisimova shows that she has grit and refuses to leave.
