The Spaniard spent the whole month of July on clay courts - Salzburg, Amersfoort, Gstaad, and Umag. His best performance was the Challenger in Amersfoort where he reached the final but lost to local player Griekspoor 1-6, 2-6. In Umag, the Spaniard beat Laaksonen and Molchan. The match against the latter lasted two hours and 41 minutes, Carballes Baena won it 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. He did not make any aces and three double faults, winning 70% of points on first serve and 51% of points on second. On the receiving end, the Spaniard's stats were 4%/49%.
Jannick Sinner
Jannick Sinner got off to a flying start in Umag, knocking out the tough Jaume Munar, who had practiced on the clay a lot. We have to mention that Sinner is having his first tournament in Croatia on clay. Honestly we thought that the Italian will need time to adapt, but we see that he is doing very well on the Croatian courts. The match against Jaume lasted almost two hours and, despite two sets and no tie-breaks, it was quite hard fought. Sinner fired once and four doubles faults, winning 72% of his points on first serve and 50% on second. On reception Jannick had the following statistics: 31%/65%. Especially noteworthy was his excellent second-serve reception.
Expert Betting Tips
Carballes Baena is a claycourter, like most of his compatriots, but Roberto is not a top one. Jannick is just a top ten player who feels comfortable on the clay. After Sinner's confident win over Munar, we have little doubt that the Italian will also make it to the semifinals in Umag, Croatia.
