Ons Jabeur vs Madison Brengle Prediction: Beting on Ons

The number 5 ranked player in the world has been hit and miss throughout the US hard court swing and meets American Madison Brengle in the first round of the US Open as she attempts to replicate her sensational run at the All England Tennis Club.

Seeded number five at Flushing Meadows, the 27-year-old Tunisian has had a memorable year on the court. Finalist at Wimbledon, Charleston and Italian Open, Ons won the titles at the Madrid and German Opens to amass to three WTA tour titles. Jabber Ons, who has consistently, underachieved at the US Open, will look to leverage her form to go past the third round where she has stopped in recent years and reach the later stages. 

Ons comes into the US Open from a two sets loss to Petra Kvitova at the Cincinnati Open. With a win percentage of over 65% on hard courts in the last 12 months, the Tunisian is one of the favourites in New York.

The 32-year-old American was steamrolled by Aliaksandra Sasnovich in her last match at the quarter-final stage of the Tennis in the Land at Cleveland. The loss halted a small run of two wins by the underwhelming American ranked 61 in the world in which she beat Ekaterina Alexandrova and Varvara Gracheva. Brengle has made it to two quarter-finals on the WTA Tour this season at Adelaide and Cleveland. She has also been active on the Challenger circuit reaching the last eight in two events. Brengle who has never won a title on the Tour was last at the US Open in 2020 when she lost in the Third Round.

Both players met in the qualifier of the 2020 Hobart International in 2020 where Jabeur Ons won 7-6, 6-2 to hold a 1-0 head-to-head lead.

Looking at the performances of the two players in the last 12 months it is clear that there will be the only winner in this contest - Ons Jabeur. The odds reflect this too as the oddsmakers have made the Tunisian number 5 a massive favorite. However, Jabeur seems to be struggling in the past couple of weeks and even though the Grand Slam event usually gives the top players extra motivation, we see the American give some resistance, especially in the opening set. 

Jabeur will deploy her famed drop shots and groundstrokes to sweep away her challenger but the veteran American is also comfortable on the hard surface and if she can up her serve percentage with the crowd behind her, she could make a little effort to delay the inevitable.
