In 2023 Novak played two tournaments on clay - Monte Carlo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, failing both. In Monaco, he beat Gakhov but lost to Musetti. Djokovic defeated Van Assche in the Balkans but lost to Lajovic, who subsequently won that tournament. Obviously, he has problems on the clay court. Let's see if the Serb can improve or fail again like he did in Monte Carlo and Banja Luka.
Tomas Etcheverry
After the Masters in Indian Wells and Miami, the Argentine has played four clay tournaments; Rome is his fifth. The best was the Houston event, where Etcheverry reached the final but lost on two tie-breaks to Tiafoe. Etcheverry then played two matches in Barcelona, Madrid, and Aix-en-Provence before knocking out Van Assche in the first round at the Rome Masters, 7-6, 6-3, in two sets. In that game, the Argentine made seven aces and zero doubles, winning 74% of first-serve points and 48% of second-winners/unforced errors 22/11.
Expert Betting Tips
Potentially Djokovic should smash Etcheverry in the upcoming game. However, he was supposed to smash Musetti and Lajovic but failed both matches instead. Etcheverry is not a top player, but his tonus is fine, having practiced on the clay. In addition, he had an official game in Rome and played well against Van Assche. Etcheverry will fight the world number one on Friday, and we won't be surprised if he beats the Serb in one set.
