Despite being barred from events in Australia and North America, including the two Grand Slams played on those continents, Djokovic has remained at the peak of his form. In 2022, the Serb surpassed Carlos Alcaraz as the top title holder, winning five trophies, including Wimbledon, and finishing the season strongly with a triumph at the ATP Finals in Turin.
The 21-time Grand Slam winner is off to a great start in Adelaide, where he defeated Frenchman Constant Lestienne in the first round. He defeated the World No. 65 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, converting three of the eight breakpoints he faced while saving one.
Quentin Halys
Meanwhile, in the first round, Quentin Halys defeated wild card entrant and home favorite Jordan Thompson. The Frenchman converted two of five breakpoints while facing none himself. Halys secured the deal with an easy straight-sets success of 6-3, 6-4.
Although the 26-year-old did not have spectacular achievements on the ATP Tour last year, he finished the season with a career-high ranking of World No. 64 thanks to some notable performances on the Challenger circuit, where he won three championships and appeared in four more finals.
