Marin Cilic vs Félix Auger-Aliassime: Marin Defeats Félix for the Fourth Time

One of the last 16 of the Australian Open matches will be between the Croatian Marin Cilic and the Canadian, Auger-Aliassime. They have played each other three times on tour, twice on hard court. They have never crossed paths at AO tournaments. In all three matches, Cilic won. Despite these statistics, the bookmakers are on the side of the Canadian Auger-Aliassime in the pair.

At the start of the tournament in Melbourne, Marin was lucky with the draw. In the first two rounds he faced Emilio Gómez of Ecuador and Norbert Gombos, #117 in ATP. Before the match against Rublev, Cilic had little chance of winning, especially since Rublev is not the most comfortable opponent for Cilic. The first two rounds were relatively easy for Cilic, but the Croat clashed with Andrei Rublev, the undisputed top player in the tennis world, in the third round. Marin showed a very high level against Andrei. Plus, Marin has a decent experience of beating the Canadian. Cilic defeated Auger-Aliassime in Washington, Paris and Stuttgart, on open hard court, indoors and grass.
