Lauren Davis vs Jelena Ostapenko Prediction: Ostapenko has been struggling as of late

The WTA tour brings to us many fascinating battles and the current Guadalajara Open has a field that rivals those of the Grand Slams, thus, the action is bound to be top-notch for the most part. The Draw is amazing and straightaway there have been some highly intriguing battles. In this game, Lauren Davis will tackle the threat of Jelena Ostapenko.

Lauren comes into this game after winning her Qualifiers leg and entering the main round. She managed to defeat Nao Hibino 6-4, 6-1. Meanwhile, she also defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands in two sets to begin the Qualifiers. Lauren couldn’t make it past the Qualifiers of the San Diego Open, losing to eventual Finalist Donna Vekic. Before that, she had made an impressive Quarter-Finalists Mayar Sherif. During US Open too, she was impressive, making it to the Third Round after beating Ekaterina Alexandrova. At 29 years old, Lauren has fallen through her earlier rankings but remains a firm competitor.

Jelena is having a tough year and has suffered some setbacks as of late, which resulted in a drop in the rankings. During Ostrava Open and Tallinn Open, she had lost in the first round but made it to the Final of the Korea Open but lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova. Her US Open campaign ended in the first round where she lost to Qinwen Zheng. During Cincinnati Masters, she had lost to Madison Keys in the second round. Jelena has lost against top-ranked players repeatedly. During Wimbledon, she lost to Tatjana Maria in Round of 16. Overall, Jelena has been making some big run here and there but mostly, she has packed her bags early.

Jelena and Lauren have played each other four times and both players have won two each. They last met during Rome Open where Davis won in two sets.

Lauren can be a tough nut to crack and Ostapenko has been struggling to find her game. However, it isn’t like that both players have been in any sort of world-beating form recently. The Head-to-Head shows no separation so this can go to three sets here. I’d back Jelena here.
