Laslo Djere
Unlike most players, the Serb began playing hard court last week at Winston-Salem after the clay portion of the season. The Serb was undeniably good on the court, knocking out Goffen, Souza, Kubler, Gasquet, and Husler before losing in the deciding match to France's Mannarino. The match against Mannarino was a two-set affair that lasted an hour and 46 minutes, Adrian won it 7-6, 6-4. During the match, Djere served eight aces with four double faults and won 74% of points on the first serve and 50% on the second. On the receiving end, the stats were 17%/30%, winners/unforced errors 20/29.
Andrey Rublev
Andrey claimed three titles in 2022: indoor in Marseille, a hard-court title in Dubai, and clay in Belgrade. And his best performance since the clay portion of the season was in Washington, where Rublev reached the semifinals to lose to Nishioka. After the US capital, Rublev fell in Montreal, losing the first match to Evans. In Cincinnati, Andrey got past Fognini, but not easily, in three sets, and lost to Taylor Fritz in three sets as well. Last year at the US Open, Rublev fell in the third round, losing to Tiafoe in five sets, knocking out Karlovic and Pedro Martínez Portero.
Head-to-head encounters
Laslo and Andrey have played each other three times, and exclusively on clay. Rublev won 2-0 in Moscow in 2015, and a year later, Rublev took a 2-1 win in Cortina, Italy. And in July 2022 in Swedish Bastad, Andrey confidently defeated Djere in two sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
Expert Betting Tips
Last year Rublev made it through the first round of the US Open with a three-set win over veteran Karlovic. This year, Andrey has another Balkan in the first round, this time Serb Laslo Djere, whom Rublev met a month and a half ago and soundly beat him in Bastad. Even despite Rublev's recent hard-court losses, this meeting will be decided by the favorite. Laslo did well at the Winston-Salem tournament, but let's be honest, he was not as impressive as Rublev in that tournament. Andrey will start on Tuesday with a solid win, we believe.
