Grigor Dimitrov vs Novak Djokovic Prediction: Will Grigor be able to win a set?

The tennis world is full of immense surprises, and because we have 100s of games a month at the professional level, upsets are quite common. Thus, being a top player isn’t easy and when major tournaments are on, the viewers are expected to be glued to the action. There are some players who just keep on showering the viewers with glorious memories and have a gut of steel. One of those players, Novak Djokovic is going to take on Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 32 of the Australian Open.

Grigor comes into the match after defeating Laslo Dere 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 in the Second Round. Grigor nailed 7 Aces in that game while eking out an 80-61% win on the first serve. Dimitrov had a significant 48-35 service points advantage while having a 38-14 receiving points advantage. Grigor received much more resistance in the first round where Aslan Karatsev pushed him to a tiebreaker and had a strong set too but so far, Dimitrov is yet to drop a set. Dimitrov has made it to the deep rounds repeatedly but has lost to top players continuously. He has been ranked as high as three five-six years ago but currently, he is hovering around 30 or so.

Djokovic enters the contest after defeating Enze Couacaud 6-1. 6-7, 6-2, 6-0. Although Enze did make Novak drop a set, when the Serbian enters the latter parts of the match, he becomes even more lethal. Djokovic had an 84% win on first serve as part of the regular Novak course which gave him 78:73 service points but his receiving points advantage was even more impressive as he continuously broke serve, where he earned a 67:28 edge. In his first game, Novak overcame Roberto Carballes Baena easily, winning in three straight sets. Well, Novak doesn’t need any elaborate introduction, no matter which Grand Slam he enters in, he is one of the if not the favorite to win here.

Novak and Grigor have met ten times and Novak has won nine of those games.

Djokovic has once again shown that to beat him, you need to have more than your special game. Only the elite players stand a chance against him and the h2h disparity in relation to Dimitrov says it all. While Grigor is himself a long-time campaigner, it would be a surprise if he takes it to the fifth set, however, taking a set remains a possibility. But we are talking about pro sports and you never know when the tables are turned. However, I expect Novak to win in three straight sets.
