Egor Gerasimov vs Karen Khachanov: Khachanov to win in a tough match

In the Adelaide quarterfinals, Belarus' Yegor Gerasimov will face Russia's Karen Khachanov. This will be Karen's second game, while Gerasimov has already played four matches.

Last season Gerasimov finished with tournaments in the north of Europe, in Stockholm and Helsinki. As a result, the Belarusian lost three games in a row, including two matches in Sweden. In Adelaide, Egor beat Lamchinniah and Albot. In the main draw, Gerasimov defeated Fucsovics and Magera. For the Belarusian, the current tournament is a real breakthrough, so it's unlikely that it will be easy for Karen in the upcoming meeting. 

Despite the staffing difficulties of the Russian national team at the ATP Cup, Karen failed to re-sign for Sydney. The number four has won one meeting in Adelaide against Steve Johnson in three sets. The duel lasted two hours and one minute, and Khachanov won the third game with a score of 6:2. Khachanov finished the 2021 season with a tournament in Paris, where Karen was stronger than Imer but weaker than Dimitrov.

Khachanov knows Gerasimov, as Egor and Karen have faced each other twice, the first time at the Davis Cup in 2018, the second time in June 2021 at Wimbledon. Both times the Belarusian failed to take even one set from the Russian, but now Egor has an excellent opportunity to rectify this situation. Gerasimov is showing well in Adelaide, while Khachanov has had some difficulty overcoming the resistance of Johnson.
