Camila Giorgi vs Jessica Pegula Prediction: Power-play of Pegula can be too much for Camila

The WTA scene has gifted us with various memorable moments this year. The festivities started with Aryna Sabalenka lifting the Australian Open and Iga Swiatek’s domination has now been questioned by many. Jessica Pegula will also love to lift a title soon after being among the top players for years now. In this game, Jessica Pegula is going to take on Camila Giorgi.

Jessica Pegula last played in Dubai Open where she lost to Barbora Krejickova in three sets. Prior to that, she had her title run cut short by Iga Swiatek in the Final during the Qatar Open. Before that, she made it to the Quarter-Final of the Australian Open where she was defeated by veteran Victoria Azarenka. At 29 years of age, it is surprising that Jessica remains without a Grand Slam considering her unparalleled forehand and ability to dictate the game. She has made some impressive runs but for a player of her talent, the award showcase should be even bigger.

Camila enters the match after defeating Arantxa Rus 6-3, 6-3 in the first round. She had a whopping nine double-faults but corrected things during her later serves, dishing out a 43-29 service points edge. She was tied 31-31 in terms of receiving points. However, she won’t get away with nine double-faults against much better players. Despite some disappointing exits lately, Camila had a big turnaround when she won Akron Merida Open as an unseeded player. Camila is ranked 46 and has been hovering around 40-100 rankings for most parts.

Pegula and Camila have met eight times. Jessica has won six of those battles. They last met during Toronto Open where Pegula had a three-set win after she had lost the first round.

This can be a closer battle than it may appear considering Giorgi has won against Jessica before and has pushed her to the deciding set multiple times. However, I believe Jessica won’t let Giorgi dictate this match-up and win in two sets.
