Aslan Karatsev vs Lorenzo Sonego: Aslan's Second Win Over Lorenzo?

Aslan Karatsev will meet Lorenzo Sonego in the quarterfinals of the tennis tournament in Sydney, Australia. The men played each other once in March 2021 in Dubai, and the Russian won that match 2:1. Not surprisingly, Karatsev is the favourite.

Despite the covid and the forced break, Aslan confidently enough, in the 1/8 finals of the Sydney tournament, dealt with Kecmanovic. The match against the Serb lasted an hour and 37 minutes, and Aslan won in two sets, 7-5, 6-4. As for the statistics, Karatsev fired six times, four double faults and won 88% of points on his first serve, although he was hitting just 54% of his serves. Karatsev also had an excellent winning percentage, 52%, on his second serve. In other words, we can say that Aslan enters the new season in reasonably good form.

For Sonego, the upcoming meeting will be his third of the season. Before the match against Karatsev, Lorenzo knocked out Gaston in three sets and Baez in two games. In November 2011, Sonego played for his national team and brought the Italians two critical points. So Lorenzo should not be underestimated. Sonego is quite an experienced and skilled opponent.

Last March, Karatsev defeated Sonego in Dubai 3:6, 6:3, 6:4. Since then, Lorenzo has improved, and Karatsev is on the same level.
