Argentina won the Davis Cup Finals for the first time in 2016, when Juan Martin del Potro memorably defeated Andy Murray to avenge his heartbreaking loss to the Brit in the Olympic Gold Medal match in Rio. Despite losing Del Potro to injuries in recent years, Argentina now has an exciting new generation of talent in world number 27 Francisco Cerundolo and world number 37 Sebastian Baez, who both won their first clay championships this season at the Bastad Open and the Estoril Open. Diego Schwartzman, world number 17, leads the team as a vastly experienced and brave first choice.
The 30-year-old earned his highest-ranking win of his career earlier this year when representing Argentina in the ATP Cup, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in convincing way.
Sweden
Sweden's golden days in the Davis Cup Finals with the likes of Bjorn Borg, Mats Wilander, Stefan Edberg, and Robin Soderling are long gone, but they remain the fifth most successful nation with seven titles, the most recent of which came in 1998. Elias and Mikael Ymer, brothers, will shoulder a lot of responsibility this week as the likely doubles combo needed to win deciders if they can win their singles matches, but with Mikael barely inside the top 100 and Elias at world number 119, they appear to be a bit underpowered.
Mikael recently had a great run at the Citi Open, beating four top 50 opponents on his way to the semi-finals before falling to eventual champion Nick Kyrgios, but he has struggled to maintain that level of effort since.
Expert Betting Tips
Mikael Ymer may be a very dangerous opponent when he gets into a groove, especially over five sets, but Team Argentina appears to be one of the teams to beat in the Davis Cup Finals, and this match-up is extremely one-sided. There's a chance that either Diego Schwartzman or Francisco Cerundolo has a bad day, but Argentina should win 2-0.
