Amanda Anisimova vs Yulia Putintseva Prediction: Can Amanda fend off Yulia?

The US Open is in full swing and we have witnessed a bunch of upsets already. The higher-ranked players Simona Halep and Darya Kasatkina suffered three-set losses to go out in the first round itself. Imagine this is how tough the betting scenario has gotten from the get-go. It will only be complicated further when Amanda Anisimova will clash against Yulia Putintseva.

Amanda is an early bloomer and ever since she turned 17, she has broken into the top 100 WTA rankings and she is still just 20 and has achieved a lot at this young age, including two WTA titles and three WTA Finals appearances. She and her USA compatriot Cori Gauff are chalked up as the up-and-coming talent that can replicate the success of past stalwarts. She comes into the tournament after conceding a walkover to Shelby Rogers in Cincinnati Masters, having beaten Darya Kasatkina earlier. Anisimova doesn’t play tournaments in a bunch and takes three-to-four weeks break every now and then.

Yulia is a busybody though and has participated in every other tournament in a week’s space. For instance, since Wimbledon, she has played in six tournaments compared to three by Amanda. Yulia has been ranked as high as 27 and is currently the 38 ranked player which means she is among the cream of the players. Yulia has been ousted early in big tournaments but there have been some deep runs sandwiched in between. Putintseva was out in the first round of US Open last year but in 2020, she reached the Quarter-Final. Can she replicate something like this?

Amanda and Yulia have met once and that was during WTA 250 where Amanda easily defeated Yulia.

Surely, Amanda comes in with a huge edge here and demolished Yulia when the two last met, which was on clay court. However, Yulia can be in for a big game here and can end up consolidating some advantage. However, I see Amanda breaking Yulia’s serve repeatedly and this can go to the third set.
