Alison Riske vs. Yulia Putintseva Prediction: Riske Is Audience’s Favorite To Reach the Quarterfinals

On Thursday at the Aviva Center in Toronto, Alison Riske-Amritraj will play Yulia Putitseva in the third round of the 2022 Canadian Open.

Reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open this year, Riske-Amritraj had a strong start to the year. Riske-Amritraj, who is presently rated No. 35, appears to be gaining ground in the second part of the year. In order to go to the third round of the 2022 Canadian Open, she defeated 16th seed Jelena Ostapenko.

The American won the first set in a tiebreak, but when Ostapenko won the second set 6-0, she appeared hopelessly outmatched. Riske-Amritraj battled back to win the match 7-6(2), 6-0, 7-5 in the third set.

The 46th-ranked Yulia Putitseva will now challenge Riske-Amritraj.

Putinseva defeated fourth-seeded Paula Badosa in a walkover set to go to the previous round. Badosa was had to leave the game because of muscular cramping.

The Kazakh player, who mostly competes in Europe and has not qualified for any Grand Slams this year, advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix.

Putintseva and Riske-Amritraj have previously faced off five times, with a 3-2 advantage going to Riske-Amritraj each time.

The North American hardcourts are a great fit for Riske-style, Amritraj's and she has been playing in fantastic form. She will be the favourite to advance to the quarterfinals if she gets out to a fast start and breaks up the Kazakh player's rhythm early in the match.
