The Olympics bronze medal is up for grabs and Iga Swiatek will take on Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova for the medal. Both players failed to reach the final round of the Paris Olympics, as both slumped to a defeat in the semifinals.
Iga Swiatek lost to Qinwen Zheng in the semifinal, while Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova lost to Donna Vekic.
Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek was dealt a blow in the semifinal round when she lost to Qinwen Zheng. It was a tough game for the World number 1 who had been in very fine form until that match. Now ahead of her is a 3rd place match against Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova and she would be very much interested in bowing out with at least the bronze medal.
Iga Swiatek started her Paris Olympics campaign with a win over Irina-Camelia Begu in the round of 64 (6-2,7-5), Afterwards she defeated Diane Parry in the round of 32 (6-1,6-1) and Xinyu Wang in the round of 16 (6-3,6-4). Iga Swiatek continued her brilliant form in the quarterfinals defeating Danielle Collins through automatic qualification and finally in the semi final, she suffered a defeat to Qinwen Zheng in straight sets (2-5,5-7).
Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova
Slovakia star Anna-Karolina won’t be too disappointed not to make it to the final round even though she was so close to achieving that. She was barely among the favorites to make it this far into the tournament, but she did make it to the semi final. Now she has a chance to bow out with the bronze medal. However, she has to take on the world’s best tennis player Iga Swiatek.
Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova’s journey to the Paris Olympics semi final started with a win over Katie Boulter in the round of 64 (6-4,6-2) and then she defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia in the round of 32 (4-6,4-6). Afterwards she entered the round of 16 and defeated Jasmine Paolini (7-5,3-6,7-5) and then in the quarterfinals she defeated Barbora Krejcikova (4-6,2-6). Finally, she fell to a defeat in the semifinal against Donna Vekic (4-6,2-6).
Expert Betting Tips
With her form and ranking, and the skill difference, Iga Swiatek is bound to dominate in this match. But it is tennis, and Schmiedlova can work out some good resistance. Expect Swiatek to play aided by an aggressive baseline game and experience batted on to her side to win, likely in straight sets. Most probably, Iga Swiatek will emerge as the winner because of her dominating form and superior ranking. However, if Schmiedlova can capitalize on any mistakes and extend the rallies, she might just make the match competitive.
