Olympic Biathlon Sprint 2022: Marte Røiseland to finish in Top 3

Marte Røiseland was on the podium in both races at the Beijing Olympics. She may well finish in the top three again. We predict that the Norwegian will finish with a medal again!

Before entering Beijing, Marte Røiseland led the overall World Cup ranking with a 62-point lead over her closest pursuer. The Norwegian proved from the very first races in the Chinese capital that she could win medals in every event. She had already won the mixed relay at the Games, and in the individual race, she settled for the bronze medal, losing 15 seconds to the leader, but she was by far the better runner-up.

The price for a miss on the shooting range in the sprint is relatively low (25-30 seconds instead of a penalty minute in the individual), something that Marte Røiseland makes good use of. She has been on the podium five times in six World Cup sprint races: twice as champion, once second and twice with a bronze medal. Julia Simone and Kristina Reztsova are unlikely to be favourites to win the Olympic sprint, but their head-to-head clash in Beijing looks very interesting. Bookmakers believe the Frenchwoman is the odds-on favorite to finish first, but Russian biathlete is currently sitting in eighth place in the World Cup sprint rankings. Julia takes only 17th place, and she has only twice made it to the top-20 and failed in the remaining four starts. The Muscovite is a little more stable.

In the only individual race at the Olympics in Beijing, Kristina Reztsova was also better than Julia Simon, taking 9th place against the 21st. The Frenchwoman was a bit faster on the course, but she missed four shots at the line, whereas the Russian missed 18 of 20 targets. There's no doubt we'll see an uncompromising battle in this pairing, where the chances of success will be slightly higher for the Muscovite. Hence, a bet on Kristina Reztsova finishing above Julia Simone for 2.00 is worth looking into.
