Former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo fought only Brandon Moreno for the last three years and not very successfully - in four fights, he managed to win only one fight and drew one more. Thus, he finally lost the title and, after much hesitation, decided to try himself in a higher category.
This is the most versatile fighter, with a knockout punch and a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He was a true champion with two flashy defenses, and if you remove Moreno from the picture, he never had any worthy opponents in the flyweight division. His debut in the new division is very intriguing and, looking ahead, we strongly disagree with the bookmakers who see him as an underdog.
Rob Font
Rob Font is as veteran as Figueiredo, but he doesn't have a similar glorious fight history. He's more of a gamekeeper who can confidently deal with mid-level opponents, but he looks frankly worse against the tops; in his last four fights, for example, he suffered three losses (Jose Aldo, Marlon Vera, and Corey Sandhagen).
He prefers to fight in the standup, has very good boxing, defends himself well from takedowns, and goes into the fight only in extreme cases.
He is a very courageous fighter who fights hard even if he takes a lot of damage, but the trouble is that he regularly takes damage, especially in fights against fighters of a high level.
Expert Betting Tips
With all due respect to Rob Font, he is not Brandon Moreno. His skills and physical conditioning are inferior in all components, and the only thing he can be dangerous for Figueiredo is an extra kilogram of five pounds of live weight and eight extra centimeters of height.
Font will traditionally look for his luck in the standup, taking advantage of his reach, but we do not doubt that sooner or later, Figueiredo will move him. And sooner rather than later, as soon as he senses danger. We think the bookmakers are wrong. Deiveson will take the victory confidently, but since the fight will last only three rounds, finishing the resilient American may not be possible.
