By the end of last season, Nashville flew past the cup battles, after which there were no global changes in the team, and therefore, it was not worth expecting serious progress from it. The debut of the current regular season only confirmed it, as the Predators have only five wins and ten losses in 15 games. With such results, it's hard to expect to make the playoffs. Still, in the second half of November, they suddenly transformed, allowing them to beat Chicago 4:2, Colorado 4:3, Calgary 4:2, St. Louis 8:3, and the day before Winnipeg 3:2. Pittsburgh continues to make every effort not to remain without the playoffs for the second year in a row, but the Pennsylvanians' prospects look very dim. The age-old team can't demonstrate consistently good results over the distance. When the Penguins have a decent stretch, they inevitably have a string of bad luck. In the first half of November, they won five straight, but in the next six battles, they had four defeats in regulation time and managed to beat only Vegas and Toronto - 3:0 and 3:2, respectively. The Black-and-Yellows are now in 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Nashville and Pittsburgh are currently outside the Cup eight of their conferences, but they approach the head-to-head confrontation in different states. The Predators have finally shown some excitement and are on a five-game winning streak, showing solid hockey. Nothing like that can be said about the Penguins, as they are going through another slump, having scored only 2 out of 12 possible points in six previous battles. Given the opponent's current form, it will be hard for Mike Sullivan's wards to count on a positive result.

In recent years, the confrontation between Nashville and Pittsburgh has been characterized by modest goal activity. In the four previous head-to-head meetings, the rivals have combined efforts to suffer only 15 scored pucks (3.75 average per game). We should also not expect high performance in the upcoming battle, as the Predators have gained good pace, have a decent defense, and clearly do not want to risk a winning streak.
