Detroit is gradually trying to get rid of the status of the league outsider. We were convinced of this in the regular season's debut when the Red Wings won five bright and confident victories in six starting meetings. In the previous six games, they won only one victory, being stronger than St. Louis - 6:4, one more point they earned, losing in overtime to San Jose - 5:6, and the four remaining meetings remained without points. The losing streak has dropped the Red and White to eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Anaheim did not start the current regular season in the best way, suffering four defeats in five initial meetings, but then the Californians managed to produce a 6-match winning streak. It seemed that with such results, they could interfere in the struggle for the playoffs, but nothing of the sort happened. After a successful stretch, the Ducks had an 8-match streak without scoring points, after which they barely beat Colorado in a shootout - 4:3, but this local success did not allow them to believe in themselves. The Black-and-Orange suffered one setback after another, slipping to the penultimate place in the Western Conference standings.

Detroit and Anaheim are approaching the head-to-head confrontation, not in the best shape. At least the Red Wings have experienced and skillful players capable of overcoming the crisis and intervening in the battle for the playoffs. Still, the Ducks are league outsiders, with no cup prospects year after year. Moreover, they continue to produce successful stretches occasionally, while the Californians suffer one defeat after another.

The confrontation between Detroit and Anaheim is not characterized by high goal-scoring activity. In the last 11 head-to-head meetings, the rivals have combined to score only 47 pucks (4.27 per game on average). We have already noted that even now, both teams are far from the ideal form, and therefore, they clearly will not have the courage to give a bright and goal battle.
