Arizona vs Pittsburgh Prediction: the Penguins to Beat the Outsider

Arizona has been a hopeless underdog in recent years. The Coyotes can occasionally step up with a short-term run of good results, but they can't contend for a playoff spot. That's the usual pattern this season. They could go on a 3-game winning streak at the end of December, beating such opponents as Los Angeles 2-1, Colorado, and Toronto 6-3. Then they suffered four losses to Tampa Bay, Florida, Philadelphia, and Chicago with a score of 8-18. Now they occupy 14th place in the Western Conference.

Pittsburgh, by contrast, stands out for having the most consecutive playoff seasons. The Penguins should make decent results and quickly make it into the top eight in the Davis Cup. In fact, they still need to do something of the sort. Already, in the beginning, the team was losing points. At the turn of December and January, they completely fell apart. In the last six games, Mike Sullivan's wards earned only two points, losing to Carolina and Detroit in overtime - 3-4 and 4-5. As a result, they dropped to ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

Pittsburgh is in terrible shape, having failed the last six games. The upcoming battle with Arizona is the best opportunity to end this streak. The thing is that the Penguins have beaten the Coyotes in nine (!) consecutive meetings. Finding a more comfortable opponent will be difficult, so the series of defeats should finish here and now. In addition, the hosts also lost the previous four games. 

Lately, Pittsburgh constantly beats Arizona and scores a lot in their encounters. In the three previous meetings, the Penguins sent 16 pucks against the Coyotes (5.33 average per game). Moreover, the hosts have conceded 18 pucks (4.50 average per game) in those games, so their defense will also struggle.
