On the previous day, the Slovaks could have officially secured their passage to the quarter-finals, but allowed the Latvians to score 80 seconds before the end of the third period, and then lost in a shootout - 2:3. Nevertheless, they remain in fourth place in the Group B standings.

The Swedish national team is very strong in the group stage of the World Cup 2024, and therefore deservedly leads in the Group B standings. In the upcoming encounter, they are unquestionable favourites. The Slovaks won the last face-off 4:0, but that battle was during the 2022 Olympics, where hockey players from the European leagues played for the Yellow and Blue, and now almost the entire roster is made up of NHL players who play in leading roles in their clubs.
