The Finnish national team is once again having problems at the group stage of the World Championship. Switzerland will definitely play in the playoffs at the 2024 FIFA World Cup, but this time the Crusaders failed to win first place in the group. At the previous two tournaments in a row, they reached the quarter-finals with the first seed, but even this fact did not help them reach the semi-finals. Now the scenario will change for them. That said, it cannot be said that the Red and Whites are playing poorly. On the contrary, they started the championship with victories over the Norwegians - 5:2, then beat the Austrians - 6:5, beat the Czechs on a shootout - 2:1, and then were stronger than the Great Britain and Denmark - 3:0 and 8:0, respectively. But the day before, they lost to the Canadians 2:3, which dropped them to third place in the Group A standings.

The Finnish national team has already met the Swiss four times this season in the Euro Hockey Tour, and in all four cases they won. The squads have changed significantly for the 2024 World Cup, but the Suomi are still the favourites for the upcoming clash. The main factor in their favour is tournament motivation, as they still have a chance of making the play-offs, having missed the Austrians in the fight for fourth place in Group A. Obviously, Jukka Jalonen's men can't afford such an embarrassment, so they'll fight hard against the opponents.
