New York City FC lost the opening game against Charlotte FC. Adilson Malanda scored in just 8 minutes and New York City FC failed to score the equalizer before the end of the game. One can say that New York's current fortunes had been written in the stars because of their poor preseason run. 

Statistically New York City were not far behind but they didn't do enough to win. They had 62% possession, 2 shots on target and 4 corner kicks. They also created just 1 big chance and played 1 counter attack throughout the game. 

Nicholas Cushing played a 4-2-3-1 formation in the game against Charlotte FC. New York City were exposed at certain points during the game and Matthew Freese was forced to make vital saves to keep New York City in the game.

There's an indication that Nicholas Cushing might be sticking to the 4-2-3-1 once again in the coming game. Monsef Bakrar looks like the lone striker once again for this clash and that might be a struggle once again to score goals.

Serious questions need to be asked about Saint Louis City this season if they lose this game. They have had a very slow start to the season but they are expected to pick up pace as soon as possible.
