Panathinaikos beat Dnipro-1 (3:1 and 2:2) before meeting with Marseille. In the first match at home, the Greeks won over them 1:0, however, Panathinaikos was almost immediately destroyed 2:0 in the return game, only coming back to win 90+9 and qualify for the next round.
