Maccabi Haifa vs Olympiacos Prediction: Greeks will confirm their high level of class

Olympiacos will face Maccabi Haifa in the opening round of the new Champions League. Check the team conditions and choose several betting options.

On the eve of the start of the Champions League, the club from Haifa played the title encounter for the Israel Super Cup. As in the national cup final, Maccabi faced Hapoel Beer Sheva. And again, Haifa lost in the penalty shootout.

Last European Cup campaign, Maccabi made their mark in the Conference League group stage, where they finished fourth in a quartet with Feyenoord, Union Berlin and Slavia Prague. Maccabi Haifa has played in the Champions League group three times in their history. The last time was in the 2009/10 season, where they lost all their matches to Bayern, Juventus and Bordeaux.

The club has won the Greek championship over 40 times and has repeatedly won the Cup and the Super Cup. So it's no surprise to see Olympiacos win in the domestic scene. The legendary organisation, meanwhile, sorely lacks an international trophy. Their best Champions League result to date was in the 1998/99 quarter-finals, where they lost to Juventus Turin.

Last season, Olympiacos failed to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League and qualified for the Europa League group. The team finished second in the quartet with eventual tournament winners Eintracht, Fenerbahce and Antwerp, and were eliminated in the round of 16 by Atalanta.

The class of the teams in the upcoming clash is not comparable. If Haifa rarely takes part in European competitions at all, Olympiacos is a regular in the Champions League, if not of the Champions League playoffs, then of the late stages of the Europa League playoffs. So, Piraeus is likely to confirm their status in the first game.
