Brugge vs Bayer Prediction: The Belgians are underestimated

One of the matches in the first leg of the Champions League group stage will be between Brugge and German side Bayer. The Germans are predictably, but hardly logically, the favorites for the upcoming game. The Germans are stronger on paper, but the Belgians have had good playing practice on the European stage in recent years.

Brugge has already won one trophy this season, the Belgian Super Cup against Gent (1:0). Brugge is third in the Belgian league table with six points after seven games, five points behind Antwerp. Against Antwerp, Brugge doesn't look ideal, but they have won four of their last four games, scoring at least two goals a game in that period. Brugge has made some money on transfers. They sold De Ketelaere to AC Milan, Openda to Lens, and bought Yaremchuk, Onyedika, Mayer, Nielsen, and a couple of other young and promising guys. Carl Hoefkens took charge of Brugge on 1 July.

If Brugge is doing well in the league, at least judging by their recent results, Bayer is in some crisis. They were knocked out of the German Cup by Elfsberg, and they lost four of their five games in the Bundesliga, including three at home. It's already clear that Seoane is on the verge of being fired. Of course, it is good that the Swiss led Bayer to the Champions League, but it is evident that in this very Champions League next season, they can go either through the Bundesliga or the Europa League, which they still need to get into.

Bayer's players won't be able to ignore the Bundesliga, considering the team's poor start to the season. Four conceded goals from Elfsberg!!! There is no doubt that they will have a tough match ahead of them this coming Wednesday, in which victory for the Germans is not guaranteed. As for the total, despite the output of both the German Bundesliga and Belgian championships, we doubt that the upcoming game will be rich in goals.
