Ajax vs Liverpool Prediction: Expect a Draw

In the fifth leg of the Champions League group stage, Ajax will face Liverpool in Amsterdam. Despite the Reds' personnel problems and the pitch factor, bookmakers are predicting in favour of the Brits.

Ajax was unable to compete with the Neapolitan side, losing two games to Napoli by a combined score of 3:10. However, Ajax failed to Liverpool in the first round of the tournament, but only 1:2. On Matchday 5, Ajax has three points and a feeble chance of finishing second in the group. To beat Liverpool, they need to hit the Reds by two goals or more in a head-to-head encounter and hope that the opponents lose their sixth-round game with Napoli. Since the defeat in Napoli, Ajax has beaten Excelsior 7:1 and Waalwijk 4:1 in their national league fixture. That is not to say that Ajax is in poor form.

A draw in Amsterdam guarantees Liverpool a place in the 2022/23 Champions League playoffs. A win against Ajax, on the other hand, would be unlikely to help them win the group stage. Napoli is now very well on the way to winning the group stage against Rangers in Naples, with a high percentage. After the win over Ajax, Liverpool will need to crush the Italians at Anfield by four goals or more. We would not be surprised if Klopp concentrates better on second place in the group, guarantees the playoffs, and slowly improves the problematic situation in the EPL.

As written above, a draw against Ajax is enough for Liverpool from a tournament perspective. Klopp is a maximalist, but he is not crazy, and he knows that to beat the current Napoli side by four goals, albeit at home, with such personnel losses as they have, is unreal. Therefore, winning first place in Group A of the Champions League is unrealistic. A draw in Amsterdam will be enough for Liverpool to play in the playoffs. On the other hand, Ajax themselves are an experienced and ambitious team. Liverpool beat Ajax minimally in the first leg, so we predict problems for the English team in the Dutch capital. We will not be surprised if Wednesday's game ends in a draw.
