Stellenbosch vs Mamelodi Sundowns Prediction: This encounter will not be decided in regular time

In their attempt to secure their second Cup title this season, Stellenbosch will face off against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Danie Craven Stadium. The Stellies have been below par against the visitors over the years and must be at their best to advance to the next phase. 

The Stellies have been highly decent lately as they head here without a defeat in twenty-four matches. They have beaten Pretoria Callies, Milford FC and Supersport United to secure a ticket to this round. It has been a smooth ride for Stellenbosch who have played two amateur sides and a premier league team. The Brazilians are unbeaten in the league this season and have had a decent run in this campaign. Having won their seventh consecutive South African Premier League title with their (1-5) victory over Kaizer Chiefs. 

The Brazilians are one of the best teams in the continent; unfortunately, they were recently knocked out of the CAF Championship by Tunisian top side Esperance ST on their ground. Mamelodi Sundowns have the best defence in the league, even though they were lucky to have advanced to this level.

Stellenbosch are presently one of the best teams in SPL at the moment; they have been consistent and deserve to be here. They had a smooth sail in the quarterfinals, defeating Supersport United (4-0). On the other hand, Mamelodi Sundowns were lucky to have secured the ticket to this round after edging second-division side Pretoria University (3-4) on penalties.

Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker has won twice against Rulani Mokwena of Mamelodi Sundowns over their previous five meetings. The Stellies have scored a whopping fifteen goals over their last five games in all competitions. We are aware of the threat they pose upfront, but Mamelodi Sundowns are cut out for top games like this, even though they’ve not been themselves lately. We expect an end-to-end game here with goals from both teams for 1.91.
