Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United Prediction: Will Nottingham be able to avenge their loss?

On January 25 will be the second semifinal match of the English League Cup between Nottingham Forest and Man United. The Foresters have made a decent run recently, but the last meeting ended in a resounding victory for the Red Devils. Will Nottingham be able to avenge their loss?

Nottingham is performing exceptionally well by their standards in 2023. After the defeat at Old Trafford, the Foresters have had a four-match unbeaten streak in the EPL. First, they managed to hold on to a 1:1 home draw with Chelsea. Then they got their first away win of the season, beating Southampton (1:0). Then they beat Leicester at home (2:0). Last weekend, Nottingham avoided defeat, snatching an away draw with Bournemouth (1:1). So they have already moved up to the 13th place in the standings.

As for the League Cup, the Foresters beat Tottenham (2:0), Blackburn (4:1), and Wolverhampton on penalties. The EPL newcomer's path to the tournament's semifinals was perhaps the most difficult. Probably because of that, Nottingham sacrificed the FA Cup, where they lost in the early stages to Blackpool (1:4). But now Steve Cooper has staffing problems. He won't be able to count on Cheikhou Kouyate, Dean Henderson, Julian Biancone, Moussa Niakhate, and others.

Manchester United failed last week. The Red Devils could not consolidate their success in the championship race after an outstanding victory over Man City in the Manchester derby. First, they missed out on a last-minute win over Crystal Palace (1:1). Then, they lost a key match to Arsenal in terms of championship ambitions (2:3). Thus, United returned to fourth place in the standings. The gap between Newcastle is only in the difference between scored and conceded goals, while they are six points behind Man City and 11 points behind Arsenal.

As for the cup battles, the team also cares about these tournaments. First, they knocked Aston Villa out of the League Cup (4:2). Then, the same fate befell Burnley, led by Vincent Kompany (2:0). And in the quarter-finals, they demolished Charlton (3:0). As for the FA Cup, the Devils knocked out Everton (3:1). United played all their cup matches at home. The game with Nottingham will be our first away game.

Besides, United has a hectic schedule. The meeting against the Foresters will be the tenth game in the last 32 days. In three days, the encounter with Reading in the FA Cup and the replay with Nottingham on February 1.

Nottingham is very unbeatable at home, as Tottenham and Chelsea have proved. MU has been playing a crazy schedule (a match every other day) for the last month. This affects the functional state of the Devils in the final minutes of games, because of which they are conceding. But their diversity in attack, given primarily by Garnacho, should bring a positive result.
