Namibia started the competition with a share of the spoils against the host nation South Africa. Elmo Kambindu of Chippa United gave Namibia an unexpected lead before the break, while South Africa responded a few minutes into the second half. The match, which saw chances at both ends, ended in a deadlock which in turn favored Namibia.
Namibia won the title in 2015 and were knocked out in the quarter-final of COSAFA 2018. The Brave Warriors finished second in the tournament last year following their defeat against champions Zambia after 90 minutes of play. With the quality of their squad, they are more than determined to win this year's edition.
They are presently ranked 112nd Globally and have picked up eight points from a possible fifteen in the COSAFA tournament.
ESWATINI
The Sihlangu Semnikati of Eswatini began their COSAFA journey with a slim (0-1) defeat against Botswana. Former Highlands Park FC player scored the only goal that mattered as Botswana secured their first victory of the tournament.
They ended up as the fifth-best team in the just concluded (COSAFA) Council of Southern Africa Football Association tournament as they were beaten by Botswana.
They have won twice, drawn once, and lost three times in the last six matches in this competition. They are ranked 146th in FIFA ratings and have never appeared in the AFCON tournament.
